EATING ENGLAND: why we eat what we eat is an exploration of England and English food culture, past and present.
What is English food? To discover the answers I looked into the stories behind our favourite dishes, be it roast beef, fish and chips, Marmite, frozen peas and curries. I travelled extensively around the country talking to farmers, food producers, food historians, chefs and shopkeepers.
The book ends with a food and drink guide to twenty of the best areas to explore, from Cornwall to Northumbria. In each area, I discovered the best independents, run by the owners and with proper roots in their place. Most are still going strong a decade after the book was published.
